3D Printing: The Biggest Disruptor to the Manufacturing Industry in the Last Decade

Posted by Jonathan Tiongko on Nov 2, 2017 10:30:00 AM

3D printing gives manufacturers and designers the ability to create complex shapes and build 3D structures layer by layer rather than removing surplus material from a solid block of material, or a billet. Though the process has only recently started to evolve from its beginnings as a novelty in manufacturing, 3D printing is quickly becoming more and more common and mainstream. Slowly but surely, over the last decade it has been revolutionizing the component design and manufacturing industry.

Shorter lead times, reduced inventory and simplified assembly are just some of the benefits to be obtained from industrial 3D printing. The promise of these benefits (and more) have caused numerous industries to start investing in 3D printing for everything from prototyping to tooling, and even production. Yet, even with industries such as automotive, aerospace, and medical device manufacturing already capitalizing on 3D printing, there are still many who have yet to experience the true potential of the process.

To help illuminate the lesser known facets of 3D printing, Panova has put together a series of blog posts that will explore the past, present, and future of this revolutionary manufacturing practice. In these blog posts, we will delve into the state of 3D printing and cover topics such as its history/evolution, technologies, and the benefits and limitations. We will also share some major trends that industry leaders say will no doubt lead to an even greater adoption of the technology in the near future.

At Panova, we have embraced 3D printing technology as an opportunity to enhance client satisfaction. We have successfully utilized our in-house 3D printers to aid in product design and development of custom components. Our printers have allowed us to reduce the need for part revisions and engineering hours on our clients’ projects, and have greatly increased the rate at which we develop and deliver products.

Subscribe to Panova’s blog and follow along as we take a closer look at 3D printing, the innovative process that is sure to disrupt the entire manufacturing industry.
