On November 5th, the Panova team joined Nourish NJ in Morristown for their Sponsor the Day volunteer program. Nourish NJ promises a “unique opportunity to get involved while giving back to the community” and that is exactly what was delivered.
The team spent the morning preparing the day’s meal. Preparation included everything from chopping vegetables, cutting deserts to making egg salad, and even portioning out butter. Each task – no matter how menial it seemed – proved to be integral to ensuring that the lunch provided to the guests was healthy, filling, and well received. It was clear, from the moment that we stepped into the kitchen, that Betty and staff love what they do and absolutely give their all to guarantee that those who rely on them are well taken care of.
With Noon fast approaching, we took some time to watch a video about the organization and were undoubtedly touched by the impact Nourish NJ has had on the individuals that they serve (or have served in the past). We learned that not only does Nourish NJ provide meals to individuals in need, but they also offer additional resources including, but not limited to, housing assistance and job placement. Video testimonials from guests, past and present, really opened our eyes to the importance of what we were doing and the difference that our “gift of time” could truly make.
Following the information session, we headed to the auditorium, some of us secured our hairnets, all of us put on our gloves, and – with smiles and excitement in tow – got ready to serve the guests; and for the next hour we not only provided nourishment, but we also like to think we served up a bit of hope.
The Panova team would like to extend a heartfelt “Thank You” to the team at Nourish NJ for allowing us to take part in such an eye opening, team building, and well-organized experience.
